TELECON Bill Moyers 9/2/71 a.m. M: Henry, in one of these shows for Public Broadcasting we want to take a look at what the Administration is doing about drug traffic. What it is doing and the problems they are facing. Is there a fellow at the White House who regulates the drug problem for the President and who is that? K: Krogh. M: Could I call him directly? K: Certainly, tell him you're a friend of mine and I'll get word to his office. M: Thank you very much. K: How are things going? M: Fine. Do you know Bayless Manning? K: Yes, he is very bright. I think the Council, by the way has been defensive about the Bill Bundy matter. M: I'm glad to hear you say that. I said I'm not going to be a party to making him a scapegoat for what kiks a lot of people are involved in. K: And to accuse a man of war crimes. You know I often disagree with him and but if the liberal establishment isn't outraged by this sort of attack, I wonder what's going to happen on the right side. M: How are your feelings about Foreign Affairs at the moment? K: I think that requires a redo. I look at it as an enterprise I have to engage myself in to read it. I wonder how many people actually read it. M: Have you seen this Foreign Policy? K: Yes, it's livelier. I read an article in Foreign Affairs and say "Well, hell -- he's said that before. 11 M: I don't think this has been a good time for the Council -- I hope Manning can turn it around. K: I'm sure he can. Good to talk with you. And when you are coming to Washington, get in touch. You are one of the people I always like to see.
