I just talked to Ushiba and KX I said I just talked to the Secretary
of State and wanted to make sure we all understood what you got
out of the meeting with the President and he said there is no secret
deal between us and the Chinese especially on the Chirep issue and
that is what worried us most. And he said we have to be patient
until Fukuda comes back because Sato has to make that decision
himself. I think we are all together now.
R:
I think that is what the President intended.
K:
I think they really are deciding to support Taiwan because they
don't want to see it go into Communist hands or into Peking hands.
R:
I think you are right. They want to play it two ways. If they do
cosponsor I think we have a fighting chance.
K:
OK.
