General Walters/Colonel Kennedy/HAK
8:04 p.m., September 24, 1971 - - page 6
W:
I will go back tomorrow morning.
HK:
You ought to be there in case they want to call you.
W:
I told them I would be away for two days. I didn't tell them where
I was going.
HK:
Where can I reach you on Monday?
W:
You can reach me Tuesday morning -- I will be flying back and you
can't reach me on Monday.
HK:
Can furnish message from Anchorage, they have facilities there.
Talk to Kennedy about it.
W:
They are sending you tomorrow a copy of the instruction. they have
prepared for me and you can phone changes to that. If there are any
substantial changes, you can send a message through that channel
in code. I can break the code. It gives me status to be able to say
I have come here and talked with you.
HK:
You have done a marvelous job!
W:
I don't mind being a messenger boy but I need status in their eyes.
There are three things you will be getting -- the text, the scenario,
and the proposed instruction to me.
HK:
Terrific!
Colonel Kennedy
K:
George Bush is going to be at that meeting this evening.
HK:
Good.
K:
He will let us know anything that comes up.
HK:
Delay the debat to the 25th. A day or two can't make that much
difference. I just hate to have this thing debated when I am there.
K:
Both sides will be giving speechs.
HK:
Our side will also speak just when I am there.
