Telecon Mr. Kissinger Mike Wallace 10/6/71; 8:20 p.m. W: I am sorry to trouble you we are talking about the possibility -- more of the Kissinger possibility -- and this may be absolutely asinine -- we would like to do, if it is possible, an hour special -- 60 Minute version of Kissinger-China - trip. K: You said that yesterday already! W: We did not talk about our interest in doing an entire hour on that. Is there any way in which we can go about it? K: Then you would have to come along on the trip? W: We would try to do that -- only, how? I think CBS is having a difficult time with China because Maury Safer went in on false pretenses. Everybody else is going in. Cronkite has made an application, etc. I have not because the politics of CBS -- they want Walter to do it. K: What do you want from me -- an answer whether we could W: If you could tell me anybody with whom I could most strategically and quickly get in touch. K: In the White House? W: In the White House and with the Chinese K: With the Chinese I can't help you. In the White House Haldeman would be the best. W: Alright, sir.
