TELECON
Governor Rockefeller
11/3/71 7:00p. m. p. 3
R: I feel she got nowhere in London. She thought the demonstrations
were good for Gengali morale, but they didnt mean anything and are not
contributing to a settlement.
K: I dixx find this very interesting, and will use a lot of it tomorrow.
R: And I think they are looking for help. I don't know what their
was, but this is someone reaching out in desperation.
K: I appreciate it. And I am going to do my damnedest to get down on
Wednesday.
R: This is just gay and light.
K: That's what I would like
R: Kitty Carlisle
K: She is a lovely person.
R: You were sonice to call this morning
K: Not at all, and what you said about the Foreign Minister is very helpful.
R: It's not me aningful to me. I don't know about these thing. But she
is worried about the situation in the west because she said "If we withdraw
our troops and the Paks do, we have to withdraw way back and they have to
withdraw a very little distance. 11
K: I have studied Indian Foreign Policy, and these characters have an
enormous ability to get themselves into messes by letting events run away
from them.
R: That's right, and I said it's a shame you had to abandon your policy
of neutrality. She said it's not a policy of neutrality; it's a policy of non-
alignment, and was a matter of expedience.
K: I have told Dobrynin some day they will be surprised to learn the
depths of Indian ingratitude.
R: I said "why do you put all your eggs in one basket?" She said "we
won't if there's another basket. 11
