TELCON Atty. Gen. /Kissinger 1:00 p. m. 1/8/72 AG: Are you back in town? K: I am still on the W Coast and I am staying to get the annual report on foreign policy finished. I will be back on Wed. probably. AG: We will miss you. K: Not all of you. Two things. What is exactly Laird's objection to Rush? AG: He doesn't think he has expertise for the job or can stand the pressure. That summarizes it. K: Do you think we can ram him down his throat? AG: No doubt if the President will stand fast. I think Laird will try to talk Rush out of it but if Rush will put Laird in his place, it's a good test. K: He has been a chief executive official. AG: Laird will try to scare him off with his financial holdings. I think Rush will sell what's necessary but he has his securities in a blind trust for 3 years and doesn't know what's there and I don't think the committee will look into that. K: It's manageable. AG: Ken says he will do anything to serve the President and if it's necessaryx to sell, he will. K: Rabin is coming back tomorrow and all over again and it's essential to get it under control. AG: Have you talked with the Preisdent out there about it? K: We have been inundated on other things. A : I told him that State shouldn't take action without clearing with the WH. K: What was his view? AG: Heunderstood and I thought he would talk with you or Rogers about it. K: We must get Sisco to open the pipeline this year.
