P: I will say you said it yesterday. Rattle these cannons.
K: If you say it too often there is a slight problem. You can say it.
P: On the World Report if they ask about US negotiations, what really went
on, I will say Dr. Kissinger covered that with you gentlement and I will stand
by that. Unless there is a point we want to get across. No need to raise it.
K: Sequence was that in August we made a purely military proposal.
P: Only time we WX separated was in May. I will say you covered all that. The
more I can do that, the better. That's covered. I will now and then put something
out SO they will know what I am doing. On the Rogers/Thieu business, we want
to cool that.
K: Bunker says it's a terrible problem for Thieu to see date of resignation is
flexible for US. and ? ? ? ? ? ? . We have always said that these were Thiue's
Ideas and we have fxxxxxxxxxxx followed Thieu's lead.
P: You have cabled Thieu.
K: Yes. They will riot if they think he is out of W power. Initiative moves from
his side and handled in close concert with him. Vocal support to him.
P: Doesn't help over here. We have to save him. OnIrish thing, what can
we say? It's reaching awful far. Did you cover it in the World Report?
K: No.
P: I wish you had. None of our business. Can I say that?
K: It's true but don'te know.
P: Say we discussed matter with Heath and Lynch and we cannot interfere in this
matter but glad to be of assistance if we are asked to.
K: By all parties concerned. That goes the limit.
P: If all parties think we can be helpful we will try. Will it exacerbate the
Irish - British agony?
K: It's a loser.
P: Internationally but a winner domestically. But I will not take it on. The
Irish are wrong.
