Mr. Hoving (Met. Mus. of Art)/Kissinger
3:00 p.m. - 3/16/72
H:
Hello.
K:
Hello, how are you?
Douglas Dillon,
H:
Fine. You are very kind to call back. My President/is about to go
to Paris to talk to his old friend and former member of the Board of
Directors of the Met.
K:
Dick Watson?
H:
Yes.
K:
I think he should wait a week.
H:
Well, he is going in two weeks and would take every lead and instruction.
K:
Well, in that case he and the Chinese will be well-programmed.
H:
By late April ?
K:
Yes, by late April. In fact, we will organize Watson to raise it.
H:
In late April.
K:
You see we have these private requests in two catagories. Those in
which we let the individual shift for themselves at the nearest Chinese
Embassy and those we put in our channel. You are in the latter
category. In fact, I have even given Dillon's letter to Chou En-lai.
H:
That is splendid.
K:
Well, they are meticulous in following our
and I would be
astonished if they are not prepared by April.
H:
The best thing would be to alert your office.
K:
Fine. That would be best. Give me two weeks.
H:
Fine, then we will let you know what his departure day is.
K:
Exellent.
