TELCON Dr. TKach/Mr. Kissinger 5:56 p.m., May 10, 1972 T: Henry, I'm with the President. I just told him the news. Dr. Diamond, the man who went with Dr. White to China, just called me about an hour ago. He's been in telephone contact with a Dr. Roof (spelled phonetically) in China and he's going to accept 7 of our academicians to study acupuncture anesthesia. K: Isn't that terrific. T: Now, there is more to this. He's to call them back tonight when it is their daylight time and first, he's going to talk to Dr. Hull of the MA because you know, thousands literally now have been trying to get into China and the Chinese are even confused about this. I've been working with Dr. Hull and Dr. Marston up at NIH to get a representative group. However, they named the people that they want to come to their country and it is acceptable to Dr. Diamond and they are outstanding men in their field. Now, after he's talked to them tonight, he's going to call me again or write to me. I'll call him tomorrow anyhow to make sure if he got through. And the President wanted you to know about this. K: That's terrific. See whether we could get -- when they are ready to make some announcement on this. T: Well, at some point in time they will because they will go through the State Department to arrange all this. These men -- the 7 -- the group, that's coming here, they want to spend two days in Washington, several days at the United Nations, and then they are going to give a demonstration at their AMA meeting in San Francisco. K: Terrific, terrific. Well, that's good news. T: The significance of this is the President wanted you to know that they did get through. K: And also that it happened two days after the blockade. T: Right, sir. K: Good. T: Thanks, Henry. K: Bye.
