TELCON (AT HOME)
The President/Mr. Kissinger
May 14, 1972
K:
Mr. President.
P:
How did your day go ? I hope you relaxed a little.
K:
Yes, I've been taking the afternoon off.
P:
Lousy day, isn't it?
K:
It is a lousy day.
P:
Well, I read eight hours today. I caught up -- I've plowed through
the books now.
K:
Well, we'll have the big book for you by Tuesday evening. I worked
on it a bit today.
P:
Yeah. I don't want too much because I think basically that the best
thing I can do -- I'm somewhat familiar with all these issues, you
know.
K:
Right.
P:
And I think the best thing I can do; after I have skimmed the big book
we'll have a talk about the thing and then I'll make up some notes, you
know what I mean.
K:
Exactly.
P:
Because I think it is more important to have a talk and get the feel
of the whole situation because we're going to have to play it, you know
on some of these things not exactly by the book.
K:
Exactly.
P:
Any new developments abroad?
K:
You might take a look -- just to get a feel for the Brezhnev mentality,
to read what he said; the transcript.
P:
Oh, yeah, that I have got.
K:
Oh, you have got that.
P:
Oh, yeah, I've got a feel of that. It's very interesting.
