G: Is it safe to assume that there is more going on than just the military situation as far s--like when the President expressed confidence last week, said the chances of K: I just don't want to discuss that. You know, there's a lot of specu- lation that we're trying to push them in one direction or another. That we have succeeded or failed. And it's all uninformed. G: Right. K: And I, look if I were in your shoes Id find this maddening. As far as I'm concerned as I told Bob this morning I d rather have-- If I look at it from the xxxx point of view of the publicity or political impact a story like his of this morning is worth more to us than a three paragraph story that just records the fact of the meeting. G: Not necessarily. The problem is if expectations are built up and then it fails say K: I don't think a story. I mean last time you had a headline over your story. I know you don t s write the headlines, saying "Deadlock Reported". There was absolutely no basis for that one way or the other. G: Which story was that anyway? Was that- K: When I had my last private meeting. G: Oh I see. K: There was a headline saying "Deadlock Reported", "Deadlock Deepens" "Deadlock Continues" or whatever the phrase was. At any rate it was wrong. G: Yeah, yeah. I don't think I wrote that did I? I don't know.
