K:
Don't worry about it. I'll quiet them down. I'm going to shut
Ziegler up now.
L:
How about letting them read my memo to the President anyway.
I don't think anybody has read it over there.
K:
I'll get Ehrlichman to read it.
L:
Just give him a copy of it because Jesus this is rather serious
and they say that there are other bills up. They only other bills
are the HEW appropriation bill and that isn't going to be cut below
the President's budget and that's already passed both the Senate
and the House. It's just a conference report that needs to be acted
on. I'm not trying to burden you with problems Henry and I think
it's a lot of crap anyway.
K:
It is a lot of crap and they should just shut up now.
L:
They're just trying to make a story out of the damn thing when we
should just let it lie.
K:
You have no idea how much time Haig and I have spent on this idiotic
thing.
L:
Is that right ? I was just going over the clips that came in from - that
they brought in here. I don't give a damn about it. What the hell do
I care but they say that their telling them that the President slapped
me today and that
K:
Listen I talked to the President and he's perfectly relaxed about it.
There's a lot of staff guys churning it around.
L:
Just so he knows what the facts are over there with the McGovern
amendment. Christ, it was important to win that.
K:
He understands Mel. Don't worry about him and I'm going to shut
these guys up now.
L:
I'm not trying to perpetuate this thing at all but I wish they would just
stay with the statement and shut up.
K:
I agree with you. OK. Fine.
