Bob Burnsteen(Random House)/Mr. Kissinger
12:25 pm, October 6, 1972
K:
Hello.
B:
Mr. Kissinger, Bob Burnsteen.
K:
Yes, how are you.
B:
Fine, sir. I'm sitting here with Ed Cory who is the President of
the Association of American Publishers. And, we are going over
a achedule, --two years ago there was a beginning of a cultural ex-
change which five of us went to the Soviet Union. We just got word
a few days ago that they would like to return this--they would like
five of their publishers to come to the United States on October 15,
and we have accepted that they are coming.
K:
Right.
B:
This at the moment is being done with the knowledge but not any kind
of financial support that I know of with the State Departm ent. We
canded plan to finance it at the moment ourselves, although that is
going to be discussed further. B;ut, that's not the purpose of my call.
The purpose of the call is that they are going to be in Washington
Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the 19th and 20th. It occurred to me
that it might be something that you would want to see them or talk to
them, as it would be a good idea to have the United States interexted
in a cultural EXKRANGE things and in book publishing, and that it might
in some way be helpful.
K:
Well why don't you ask whoever is good and call my office whenever
they get here.
B:
Well, we are trying to set up a schedule obviously as close as we can
in advance.
K:
My problem is with all these negotiations, my schedule is extremely
uncertain.
but
B:
I see. Well, could we do this, could we give it time,/ obviously subjest
to cancellation.
K:
All right, but you'd have to call--
B:
We'll call the morning of the day to confirm it.
K:
Well, call Dick Campbell in my office, have somebody call him. The
maximum amount of time I could give it is half and hour.
