Well, do you think they'd need some kind of a
guarantee. I mean, are they serious?
K:
I think that the thing will be worked out. Now how it will be worked
out, by what method I just won't go into. It will certainly be worked
out.
V:
Um-humm.
K:
You know, they are conscious of what's going on in this country and
they are masters at ambiguity.
V:
Um-humm. And is it something -- I mean, do you think it will
be stretched out because of this problem?
K:
I don't think SO.
V:
You don't think so.
K:
I think it is going to be worked out as I said last week.
V:
In effect nothing really has changed from that?
K:
Nothing has changed. You know, there will be -- If we comment on
everything that Saigon and Hanoi are going to say over the next week
or two, we'll lose our sanity.
V:
(laughter) Well, we're losing
trying to keep up with that
thing.
K:
I beg your pardon.
V:
We're losing ours trying to keep up with everything.
K:
I know, I understand the fix you're in. But if you read this thing
carefully, what he's saying is they want some guarantee that we're
going to conclude the agreement. In other words, that we're not
going to kick over the whole agreement.
V:
Um-humm. He meant for the appearance to be that guarantee in
effect,
K:
That's right, that's right. I think we are in the pre-private meeting
state. But this is not for quotation.
