Ron Ziegler
11/6/72 10:12 a. m.
Z: What's the mood down there today?
K: Slight hysteria.
Z: Really?
K: Yeah.
Z: Have you talked to the President?
K: Yeah, now they all want what I wanted to do Saturday.
Z: What do you mean?
K: Put out good news about Vietnam. Now it's too late.
Z: Who wanted to do that?
K: Well I got several calls from Colson yesterday.
Z: Well we talked about that.
n
K: No, no, after that. But I think we are in pretty good shape.
1z
Z: We're in good shape. What do you think I should say if I'm asked about
will Kissinger meet with the North Vietnamese as Rogers suggested yesterday?
K: Say we have no thing to add to what Rogers said; he's obviously fully
informed. What did Rogers actually say?
Z: He said "Secretary Rogers said we have every reason to believe that
peace negotiations would resume with the North Vietnamese soon, and he
predicted the settlement was possible in several weeks.
11
K: Just say we stick with what I said in my press conference and what
Rogers said yesterday and I would add nothing to it.
Z: In other words, Ron, what you're saying, you have every reason to
believe the peace negotiations will resume soon? "That's what the Secretary
of State said and we have no reason to
.
."
K: And that's in effect what Kissinger said.
Z: Right. "That's what Dr. Kissinger and Secretary Rogers have been
saying"
"Well, will the White House say it? 11 "We expect that
Henry asked for another meeting an d we expect that
