TELCON Senator Humphrey/Mr. Kissinger 1:10 p.m., November 8, 1972 K: and I just wanted to make sure -- I didn't know how he left it with you ... that you understood that what he told you was really quite secret still. H: Oh, absolutely! K: I was sure it was left that way but I just wanted to make sure. H: Oh, absolutely ! I fully understand that. K: No, I know you wouldn't talk about it if you understood what the situation was. H: Oh, very definitely. And, as a matter of fact, I just kinda of rubbed it out of my mind. K: Right, right. H: Because I want very much that you folks proceed with great success. K: Right. Well, we have, of course, as I told you the other day, absolute confidence and I look forward to seeing you whenever you come back into town. H: Well, thank you, Henry. Well, it was a tremendous victory. K: It was H: Oh, God. K: It was unbelievable. H: Unbelievable is right. I told him last night I thought he would carry Minnesota by about 50, 000, that's about what it looks like now. K: Well, it shows that the American people just don't like to be put down by their candidate. H: That's right. You know, our people got too far out, Henry, and it's too bad because it makes it look lawfully bad for us. But we111 be back there ready to go to work. K: Good. And I look forward very much to seeing you. Will you call me when you are back in town? H: I will indeed and my friend it will be done.
