No, I know that. I just--I didnt know he had talked to you about
it and I thought you might want to mention it to Rabin tonight.
K:
I think it's excellent to do it. Haig has had a talk with Thieu.
H:
How did it go?
K:
Well, you know if these were rational people you'd say it went
very well. You know and we've got some word of Thieu's subse- -
quent briefing of his NSC which seemed to me to set them up
for a cave.
H:
Really?
K:
Yeah.
H:
Well what's in the paper x and all it certainly looked that way.
K:
That's the way it looks.
H:
Yeah.
K:
The President is getting a little cold feet again about sending
Agnew out right after wards. But I think we've got to do it
because it will take--well first of all we've already offered it.
Secondly, it takes the heat off us for the step I'm going to take.
H:
Yes. Is the President going to have to meet with him?
K:
Well maybe. It also gives us much more flexibility about the
President meeting with him. He may have to meet with him at
the end of February or early march. But he shouldn't meet with
him while I'm on my trip.
H:
Right.
K:
And if he has to meet with him I could at least prepare the other place
for it then.
H:
Yes, yes, ok. Well I think we're right to EXIX track still.
K:
I think the thing is going fine. With all the stuff that is being leaked
by everyone is positive. And so confusing that no one knows what the
hell is going on.
