P:
Yeah. But I mean, you remember we went through the whole thing.
What the hell did they bring the map for?
K:
Exactly.
P:
What did they think I was asking for? And then when you finally come
to the point of a decision, you call them in again and say look, it's
broken down, what do you want to do now? Wait? See?
K:
On the contrary, Mr. President, you have institutionalized the way by
which all the views can reach you.
P:
t
hat1's the truth.
K:
I think after this is over perhaps we could have two or three NSC
meetings.
P:
Oh, we should! We should start doing them basically. My view is
-- I think basically rather than just doing them -- I am going to establish
a regular pattern of one Cabinet meeting a month, one NSC meeting a
month and only one Leaders meeting a month. Then in between we'll have
smaller meetings on those that matter. How does that sound to you?
K:
That's exactly right.
P:
In that way you have -- and you need an NSC meeting and let all the
chaffs and the brickbats and SO forth that you and I would normally
work out, let them bring them up and let them gas about it. It's a good
thing anyway for their morale.
K:
That's right.
P:
And we haven't done it recently because we just didn't want to take the
nonsense but you know, now with the new organization -- with Richardson
in there instead of Laird; Rogers doesn't leak anyway, welve-got a pretty
good situation, don't you agree?
K:
Absolutely.
P:
And we111 just run those things and we'll talk a little more candidly.
K:
Absolutely. And we can do that easily now.
P:
Rabin certainly must have approved of what we've done.
K:
Oh, God, he said
P:
What did he say?
