Telcon Barbara Walters January 31, 1973; 12:05 p.m. -2- He said, I will do it with you first, and if I don't do it with you I won't do it with anybody. And I said, we waited and we were waiting this week to suit his time. I said this is not only embarrassing to me, this is insulting. I've told our people. We have, you know K: Well, have you talked to Ron about it? W: Have I talked to Ron about it? K: Yes. W: We had originally put in a request to Al Snyder in Ron's office to have you on the program last week, but remember there was no reason forme to, you told me that you'd had given the information-- K: No, no, I did W: Listen, I never called Ron about-- K: But did Ron talk to youthis morning? W: This was this morning. He said that we are committed to CBS. And I said youcan't dothis to me. I said Henry gave me his work and you cannot dothis to me. We've told our people, we've cleared the time we deliberated waited to suit you and - - K: Well, but I hadn't given you a time, I mean that's-- W: Exactly, but you did say to me you'd do it with me first. You did. K: That is true. But that is before he reminded me of that other thing. Well, we'll have to cancel them both. W: All I know is that you said to me, Barsbara, I will dothe interview with you first, and then whenthere was some problem with Haldeman, you also said, I'm in control of who I do interviews with and they won't let me do it with youfirst, I won't do any. So I then came up to my office and tried to cool down and called Ron back and said look, we had some- what this problem last year with Dean Rusk, because Dean Rusk had promised me that he would do an interview with me. And then whathe decided to do after the Pentagon thing , because everybody was driving him crazy, was he did CBS and us on the same night in two separate things, so we both got in our times and they got double publicity and double viewing and CBS agreed. I said why don't you talk to CBS and see if they will do sixteen minutes on Sunday, it still gives them you sbefore it gives me you, which is lousy for us, but nevertheless I said if they will do that let them do 60 minutes and then we will do ours at 10:30 or 11:00.
