JOe Kraft/Mr. Kissinger - 3 - 11:46 a.m., January 30, 1973 HK: But there is no significance whatever. I mean, whatever may happen in the weapons field in the next two years has nothing to do -- if weapons are discussed at all, it will be in the last half hour of the last day. JK: I see. Right. HK; mean, that's the sort of priority I would give it, if that makes any sense to you. JK: Well, that gives it a high priority to me. HK: Well, I'm not saying it will be discussed. if JK: No, no; but I mean what you're saying is that it might be and that they do have problems preparation for it. HK: There's no formal preparation for it. JK: Yeah. At least that's what I read you to mean. HK: That is exactly right. And that JK: Bxit he might raise it because he does have some problems in this area. HK: Well, no, only because the thing comes up and in that case, all we could do, you know, is study it. I have no reason to suppose I don't even know what they're going to come up with. Nor do I have any reason to suppose they are going to come up with anything. JK: Yeah. Yeah, I see. Okay. I mean, this is changing - - you know, chasing something that might not be down in the dark room. [Chuckle] The other thing I wanted to talk about was rhythm. I'm trying to plan my whole year ahead a little bit and I have assumed that the President would really, once he began turning to Europe, would do it rather briskly and would get interested perhaps in March or April. Is that a reasonable judgment. HK: That is a reasonable judgment. JK: Rather than much later than that? I mean, I'm thinking of a trip. HK: Well, whether it will take the form of a trip or not hasn't been decided. But you can be quite sure that he's going to move briskly into it. JK: Yeah. Is March-April a clearer timeframe than May-June or can't you tell yet?
