Now Stanley beyond this imme diate situation if you wanted to give
some thought, you know one talks about the year of Europe, but the
hell with the year of Europe, that isn't so important. What is important
is where should we be going in our relations with Europe ? I mean what
historic evolution should one try to bring about and what margins are
available ? Could you give some thought to that and come down and
talk about it or write a few pages ? The best would of course be both.
H:
Let's do that. Love to do that.
K:
I'll be going away on Friday for ten days so let's say two weeks.
H:
Fine, we'll say that.
K:
I'd really be very grateful.
H:
Oh, I'd love to do that.
K:
And what the President focuses on best is not a lot of tactics, which is
also essentially
H:
Yeh, I know. I won't deal with tactics because that's really not what
I can do from here.
K:
The sort of thing you and I were talking about when - you know the last
few years before I came down here.
H:
Yes.
K:
What is the likely evolution of Europe ? What should we want?
H:
This is very much in my mind.
K:
And then, what should be the Atlantic-European relationship and then
we can talk about perhaps what steps should be taken, but that is next
stage. If you could have that in about two weeks I'd be very grateful.

And I might then perhaps get afew people down here but who ? Whom
can I get in addition to you who would be worth talking to ?
