mean, we can't give them American equipment. I think that would be
too provocative.

To the Russians, yeah.

Well, there may be other ways.
K:
Maybe the Japanese.
P:
Hell, the British -- Let the British give them a few dollars. They like
to make some money. I mean, this isn't going to be free, you know.
It will be interesting.
K:
But I spoke briefly - In fact, the Indian Ambassador was in here as I
was talking to you -- and I gave him in general outline what we were
thinking of. You know, I can't say he likes it but that he understands.
What worries them is if we opened up the supply tap on a continuing
basis.
P:
What did you tell him? That we weren't?
K:
I told him that this was not now contemplated.
P:
Not
now
contemplated.
Good. You understand, that's exactly what
we have to do.
K:
Well, we have to find a way of getting the Iranians to do it.
P:
Exactly. That's what I mean, the third country tapsthat we're opening
here.
K:
That's right. I mean, that he hasn't understood that by sending this
stuff, the third country tap opens up.
P:
Right, right, right.
K:
But here the Indians are producing 300 tanks a year.
P:
Well, the point is we're releasing $86 million to the Indians as a result
of this, a ren't we?
