Telcon Rolland Evans April 24, 1973; 9:30 a. m. K: Hello. E: Dr. Kissinger? K: Yeah. E: How are you, sir? K: Okay. Do you want to suggest another date? E: Now that Scotty is running you for President, I guess there's no chance for a mere mortal like myself having breakfast with you. K: I never see Scotty and I do a hell of a lot better with Scotty than I do with you. E: I thought you'd written that piece. K: I haven't talked to Scotty in six weeks. E: (laughing) Oh, Henry, come on. K: Ask him. E: I have never seen such good coverage as you got on that. A four- column headline, and poor old Bill, poor old Bill, you've got to go over to page 15, at the end of everything about your speech there's a little shirttail -- I'm trying to find it here -- and the headline says "Rogers cautions on cut in troops." K: Yeah, but do you think he should have given a speech on Europe the same night that I gave one that the President wanted given? E: (laughs) How are you? You must have had a good time up there. K: But if you read the Washington Post you'll think that I gave a speech about Watergate. E: I watched the news last night. I watched your handling that question on Watergate. I thought you did it extremely well, with high decorum and sense of taste and balance. Excellent, I thought. K: Thank you.
