TelCon John Oakes/Mr. Kissinger 12:56 pm, May 11, 1973 K: Hello. O: Hello, Henry. K: John ? O: Yes, hi. K: I tried to get you when you were in Washington, did you ever get my message. O: Oh, I did but so late that it didn't take. I called back, of course, when I got the message but it was already--I - remember what happened, I called back and didn't get any answer and I assumed that the office was closed, and it turned out when I spoke to ;Mr. Campbell the next morning, cause I called him the following morning, he said that he'd been there all the time and I--evidently my telephone call just hadn't gone thru. K: What a pity. O: I should say I was in touch with your office about 20 times the previous couple of days-- K: You are kidding. O: I don't mean twenty times, but I called-- K: More than once. O: Oh, sure, early in the week, oh yes, oh sure. K: Well we are having massive pressure - - we've had this breakdown before with people calling five or six times and I'm told once at the last minute. O: Oh yes, I don't remember exactly, but I called two or three days as a matter of fact, cause I was there for about 3 or 4 days. In fact, I even stayed over a day longer than I intended on the possibility that I might be able to-- K: The idiots, they are total idiots. There's just no chance of my not seeing you. You know, if you gave me a three hour period, I might be able to do it, but if you give me a three day period, there is just no chance that I wouldn't see you.
