HAK/President 11:05 10 Jun 73 HAK: I just got off the phone with Dobrynin, and he said that this is one of these Moscow things. He's already made a strong appeal; he's going to make another one today. And he should have an answer tomorrow. RN: Well, he didn't say that it was the lack of confidence in him or anything like that did he ? HAK: Mr. President, there is no lack of confidence in you whatsoever. The trouble is that some of these Democratic senators are making these things an issue between foreign government and theirselves. RN: Well, they did that at the time of Cambodia, etc. , etc., etc., , didn't they ? HAK: That's right. There is not an iota lack of confidence. He's got seven agreements ready to be signed. RN: Well, how does Dobrynin sound about the meeting.? Hxx Is he still for it? HAK: Totally. We have the SALT principles all agreed. RN: Is Brezchnev looking forward to it? HAK: Enormously, Mr. President. The problem is that these bastard traiters we have in this country. RN: What do you think the damage is when you talk with them. HAK: People are causes. They are warned that may be the trade bill won't go through and things like that. But he thinks it's going to work out. RN: Well, if it doesn't, you understand, we can say we have so much businees we can make acid out of adversity. HAK: Oh, absolutely. RN: We must meet in Washington. HAK: He thinks it is going to be worked out, and we can scrub the Houston stop, Mr. President, because the Skylab is blasting down that day.
