Telecon Mr. Kissinger Marvin Kalb 7/23/73; 11:50 a. m. HK: Marvin. MK: Henry, I just want to reaffirm, really, CBS's interest in the proposal that I put to Dick Campbell. HK: On your coming along to China. MK: We are thinking of doing something special with it and we are eager. I told them I knew of your arguments against it. HK: I have never taken anyone along but this is not a normal situation. I am leaning towards it. If I take anybody along, I will take you. MK: That will be marvelous! I have this feeling that we are so encrusted with this domestic stuff that this would keep me from going insane. on HK: I think we need it for the country and/where we are going rather than where we have been. MK: I just wanted to pass along our interest. HK: We are not quite ready yet with the date. We don't want to get it in- extricably intertwined with Cambodia. MK: But you still think it might be in August. HK: Probably but it might slip into September -- early September. MK: Henry, tell me what I should be working on. Could we have lunch or dinner one day? May I check with your girl? HK: Wonderful. How is your book going? Who is your publisher? MK: Fine. We are in discussions with Random House. HK: Oh, they did come through! MK: I got in touch with my lawyer and he is calling Bernstein and Klupfer(? ). HK: Good. I may not feel that way when I see the book. MK: I have shown it to three or four people and they all say it is clinically objective. HK: That's all I can ask. Good.
