Henry Brandon/HAK
August 16, 1973/6:45 p.m.
B:
Hello Henry how are you?
K:
I've been rather busy.
B:
What are your plans for tomorrow evening?
K:
I was going to get some people together but do you want to talk
to me alone.
B:
I would, yes, but what are the alternatives.
K:
Well, why don't you join us.
B:
Who will be there.
K:
Peterson and the people he staying with, myself and Winston Lord.
B:
I would love to. Where?
K:
Maybe I can fit a half hour in at the end of the day. I thought you did
a fine job on the article.
B:
Thank you.
K:
I do think what you said is right. The Europeans don't know what
athe American position is. What makes them think we need them.
This is off the record. It will do nothing for the popularity of the
President. We do need them because if they want to
B:
You know I have this uneasy feeling that they cannot cope with
their own views.
K:
Very perceptive. They don't know what to say and in the meantime
history is marching on . I agree very much with you.
B:
The editor said the article arosed a great deal of interest from
people who matter.
K:
Really. I have no sense for the mood in the British Government.
This Prime Minister must be the only one with a heart.
