I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated the role you played
in these hearings --
A:
The what?
K:
You know--you kept me focused on some--
A:
I see.
K:
And that I hope to be able to work closely with you.
A:
I had a good time last night --trying - to make sure when you get up there
Monday that you wouldn't be all alone.
K
Good are you coming?
A:
I don't know about that--but we'll wait until you are confirmed and decide
on that.
K:
I hope you and Mrs. Aiken will be able to come.
A:
I'll tell her--that might make a difference you know. So all right,
last night I had a hell of a time getting this fellows confirmed--Bill
Fulbright didn't act bad at all. Somebody else--I'm not sure there
was a quorum of the committee present when they were all voted out
but as far as your ambassaodr and your delegates and their alternates,
they were all confirmed.
K:
Very good.
A:
And that came about as far as we could go last night. The other three
have been with us since last spring anyway and we'll have to work on that.
K:
That'd be very helpful.
A:

That didn't have to be done last night. But I sure did try to impress on
them that we couldn't send you up there and not have a single authorized
US delegate
K :
No that would have been terrible.
A:
All right, we'll gds keep watch of it.
K:
Good Senator, and I hope we can get together soon after my confirmation.
A:
