K: I am checking about the SC. I was told that the Egyptians asked
for the GA meeting. But it is impossible to get the GA until Monday
and in any event it is a threat to the peace and security and we will not have
it in the GA.
D: I understand.
K: It is a grievious suggestion. We cannot accept it.
D: I understand.
K: I have talked to the President again and he wanted me to call you and
to underline again his very grave concern that this not be used to destroy
everything that it has taken us three years to build up.
D: By whom.
K: By any of us.
D: Who really?
K: If you take the position of support all out for the Arabs that would
be in effect encouraging what seems clearly to us and Arab attack
no one in their right mind believes that the Egyptians could have
xlexixx crossed the canal in five places. I would be glad to have your
military analysis on that part. Since all of the fighting on Israel territory
I think the facts are clear. We are prepared before the SC to take a
neutral position if you do and we are prepared to make a joint resolution
just calling for ceasefire lin.
D: I understand and I have sent that.
K: Today the Arabs are on Israeli territory but we don't believe
this will last 72 hours and after that the problem will be to get the
Israelis back to the ceasefire line. If we agree on this course no matter
what the military operations no matter how successful the Israelis may be
we will stick to this proposal and we will be prepared to oppose them.
