K:
I just want to keep the lines of communication straight.
S:
I'11 pass along whatever you want me to pass along to him.
K:
But I don't want to break Popper's morale.
The Israelis of course will
not accept the one even as edited. We turned to the decisions at the
time
that the ceasefire. Now, what I think we should tell the Russians is that
if they want to make a joint resolution we can make it confirms the
immediate cessation of all activities and have a second paragraph on
the observer personnel. That part we can make joint. We cannot make
it a joint resolution that demands that they return to the prime, at the
moment of the adoption of the ceasefire because that's inconsistent
with the original resolution. If they ammend it to make it at the time
that the ceasefire went into effect we will abstain from it.
S:
Right.
K:
Don't you think?
S:
Well, let me reflect on that. I think myself, if you, if the Russians go
ahead on this and we end up abstaining, I think now the Russians and
others begin to beat us over the head in the area. I think myself that
if you press them hard enough you can get the deletion of that portion
and that's what I think we ought to do in order to stay together. Because,
if then, they come out on the side of God, we then put ourselves in the
position.
K:
OK, why don't you call Voronstov and tell him I'm in a meeting and say
this is our decision and I will call him in half an hour. That way I don't
get into a shouting match with him.
S:
I will not say anything about the abstension because they'll bite at that.
K:
Just tell him
S:
What we need deleted.
K:
And tell him that once the observers are in the field we give them our
assurance we will vote for any resolution censuring people crossing the
line. See what I mean.
S:
Sure. Give them that kind of assurance. Also you can use the
argument.
