4:40 p.m.
M: I just wanted to tell you I talked to Larry Lynn today and
tell you briefly what I said I said I despised Nixon more than
he did. I told him the only place to do any good today is with
you, with the situation as it, under the circumstances with a very weak
executive there is no chance in hell he could do anything outside
more important than he would be able to tx with you. I told him
it was a tremendous opportunity compared to whatever opportunities
there might be outside here. I went on and on and on in that vein.
And he said he would take my words seriously. I think the odds
are about 50-50.
K: That's better than they were.
M: I hope SO.
K; And he really could make a hell of a difference.
M: Exactly what I told him. One man does make a difference and dammit
he could do the job.
K: We've got to build this place into a, little excitement.
M: Right, and I told him I thought it would be more exciting
than anything he could find or anyplace he could contribute on
the outside. He thought perhaps he could contribute more on
the outside.
K: That's not true.
M: I know. Well I just wanted to tell you how it went. If you
feel I could help by calling him again or SO mething, don't hesitate
to let me know.
K: That good to know.
