Telcon Secretary Kissinger The President 1/28/74; 11:23 a. m. -2- to K: Right, Mr. President. We have/add a paragraph or so on the Middle East which has to go with it. P: Oh, I see. K: If that fits into the scheme of your speech. P: Well, we are going to say something on the Middle East but I think what you mean. You mean about developments and what we are pumping to do or K: That's right. It S S basically xxxxxxxxx innocous but it is sacramental language. P: Uh-huh. K: You know 242 and P: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, we could even more it. We could put that paragraph in another section if we didn't want to put it right there. But we will. K: That's where the Arabs would want it. P: Yeah. We could just type the darn thing up in the briefest possible form, you know, and the most -- you know -- striking form. K: Right. You will have it this afternoon, Mr. President. P: That's plenty of time. plenty soon. Or tomorrow morning. K: You will have it late this afternoon. P: Fine, Henry, you have plenty of time to get something in. But as I said, what we say about 242 and the rest, make it brief. K: Oh, very brief. The less the better from my point of view. P: I know. But we have to say it because their K: And it's P: Right.
