TELECON
Joe Sisco/Secretary Kissinger
February 3, 1974
12:25 PM
S: I got a call from the Jordanian Ambassador. He had been called by
Rifai from London.
K: The problem is the President is determined to go to Key Biscayne.
We've got to prepare for the energy conference. There's a physical limit
to what can be done.
S: I think they're
because I had to delay in responding and without it
being said, there's probably a feeling that the President is not giving his
dinner.
K: My God, they should realize at the same time the demands which are
involved. If he wants to go to Key Biscayne for an hour, that is fine with
us, but I can't see him alone. I can't go on anymore like this.
S: Sure, sure, in other words, if the President would be available for an hour.
K: He might, he's already got all the energy people coming on Friday.
There's no sense in his going with all the people he's got coming down, and
having to work for 10 hours a day.
S: You will be there too?
K: I have to go down Thursday night, on my way back from Panama.
S: From your point of view, going to Key Biscayne from Panama is just as
easy.
K: That's not my problem, my problem is I'll not have a bilateral with him
down there under any circumstances.
S: He would be limited to one hour with the President. Why don't we just sit
on this today.
K: I can tell you what the answer is. Tell him the President can see him
for an hour down there. That's all that can take place.
S: Let's talk it out later.
direct with myslef in London. It's just
as easy to talk to
I'll try to reach the Ambassador today. If I don't
reach Rifai today, I'll call him first thing in the morning.
K: OK
