Haig - page 2 H: Listen, I hald some long-haired guy come in here today. He was the creepiest looking fellow I've even seen. He's doing a piece on you. K: What's his name ? H: Berlin. K: Oh, yes. H: My God, the questions he asked. K: Like what? H: I don't know whether he's out to screw you or not. K: I'm sure he is. He's NY Post. Like what? H: You were using devious methods in the bureaucracy. You were paranoiac . Whether you had scars of your youth. He just went on and on and on. I think I handled him alright. K: What did you say, no I have scars of my adulthood. H: I told him you once told me acute paranoia in Washington would be diagnosed as excess complacency. I said I agreed with that. K: So, he'll say we were both paranoid. H: Yes. K: That's all you're going to achieve with that sort of a smark alecky remark. H: I think I went through your organizational stuff. He wanted me to say you are an organizational disastor. I said that's anything but true. I said it precisely the opposite. I said he doesn't like to deal those things. He'd rather deal with substance. But when he wants to do it and has to do it, he does it very well. I said I don't know anybody who does it any better. K: After all, you know, we've kep the foreign policy and defense policy going for five years in a disastrous situation. H: That's right. K: I don't know what the test is. H: He apparently talked to everyone of our ever defective staff group over there. The earlier boys.
