K: Joe, have you seen a cable here from Aikins that he asked the Saudis
to extend an invitation to the President for a visit.
S: No, I haven't.
K: Look, we've just got to get more discipline into this.
S: Is there such a cable ?
K: Yes, there is such a cable.
S: Well, let me see what it is.
K: Well, there's nothing to see what it is, Joe. You've got to get these guys
in line.
S: He would have done this totally on his own responsibility.
K: Yes, but there is too much flapping around. These guys have to learn that
they are serving the God-damn United States and not themselves. No one has
a sked him to discuss this.
S: He certainly hasn't.
K: What are we going to do with an invitation if the President isn't coming?
S: That's a good question.
K: There was never any question that the President would be welcome there.
S: I'm sorry to hear this, Mr. Secretary and I have no answer and no
explanation.
K: Well, take a look at it.
S: Alright, I will.
