S: Yes sir.
K: How are you Senator?
S: Fine, thank you very much. Thank you very much for calling.
I had hoped I would have a chance to see you before the Law of the Sea
Conference starts the 20th. But I guess in view of your schedule,
that would be very difficult for you.
K: Well, ugh, I am going away with the President again, and I am
practically drowning in work.
S: Sure. Well I think bascially the main points that I wanted to
make were that I think that whatever our instructions, I think that
you have received or will be receiving recommendations in that
respect from
there certainly maybe some situations some in
particular areas where we will meet to go somewhat further in the
hopes of getting to near an agreement this summer if possible.
K: But could you sum these issues up in a memo for me.
S: Yes. They are and I will and it may be in the course of the summer
the most practical thing for me to do is come home and talk to you at
that point when the situation is clearer than it is now.
K: Good, but I would appreciate a summary memo now of everything.
S: Certainly, we will do that.
K: Good.
S: And the other point I did want to make very briefly is that we are now
working very closely with the Soviets, who have been most cooperative
I was in Moscow 10 days ago and it maybe that this will come up and
in the course of your trip, but I think it would be very helpful if you
could indicate. We appreciated this way.
K: Yes, but you would have to xtell me what the issues XXXXIXY
are,
I can't just give a general endorsement.
S: Sure, sure. All right we will get that to you in a memo too.
K: Good I would appreciate.
