Javits - page 2 power deal with Egypt and Israel to you, rather than trying to deal with them himself. K: That's a good idea. J: And I will be XXXXX there to him harmless, in other words, I'll strongly back him in the fact that all he could tell us is hearsay and what he read in those papers, but you could tell us what animated you and what safeguards you have in mind and so on. K: Right. [think that's fair enough. J: That's better. OK. Henry, you tired, do you feel better? K: Well, Jack, I didn't feel so badly. You know, that's one of the myths that is now being spread. I felt I couldn't let myself be bled to death one leak at a time while I was traveling through the Middle East. J: Listen, the power of honest indignation is unbelievable and that's what you expressed. K: After all I knew the documents, I had shown them to Sparkman and Case. J: Of course. K: And I knew that if they leaked one at a time there would be an editorial a day, maybe it was a mistake to X hold the press conference. J: No, you expressed an honest indignation of an honest man who was doing an enormous job and in danger of being messed up by . K: You know, what really worries me, Jack, which I can say is this; with the President facing impeachment, what's been holding things together is my moral authority abroad and to some extent at home. If that's lost we may be really in trouble. J: Absolutely right. Listen, it makes a lot of sense. I think we'll understand that and the xixx virtue of having it in our committee is exactly that, that we do understand the whole picture. K: Well, the committee has been fine and you've always been a good friend. J: Well, that's the way we'll keep it. Now you go and how long will you be away? K: About 10 days.
