TELECON Bernard Kalb/Secretary Kissinger July 12, 1974 12:20 PM HAK: How are you? K: Fine. Thank you very much, sir. I just wanted a moment if I could, I was going to try actually to stop by for a second before leaving for San Clemente to drop off a bound copy of the book, which we just have received. HAK: Oh, terrific. K: But Dr. Kissinger, my office called to ask me to look into the story in the Wall Street Journal which I assume you may have seen this morning. HAK: No. K: It's on the front page on the top, Nixon and Kissinger head toward a falling out. HAK: Oh, baloney. K: And he says the President fails to aid the Secretary of State on the wire tapping controversy; Kissinger would like a White House statement that he's telling the truth. HAK: That's also nonsense. K: All of that HAK: Yes. I'm certain the President will say what needs to be said before that is over and it's just not true. K: Can I use some of this of what you're saying, nonsense of this whole report? I mean would it be alright if [were to quote you on this ? Or just take it on background and so forth. HAK: Take it on background. But you can make it very strong. K: The whole story? HAK: Yes. I mean, for example, somebody read me a part of it this morning. For example, he fails to inform me of a Japanese trip. He failed to inform me of a trip he isn't taking. K: I see. HAK: That was with respect to the story that he was going to Japan in
