23-B TELCON Jim Callaghan/HAK INCLASSIFIED 1:32 p.m. - 7/20/74 K: Well, I told the press today on a background basis that I got you out of bed at 4:00 in the morning but your moral was restored when you got me out of bed at 3:000. C: I'11 do the same for you. hope you K: I told them that you had -- left that distinct impression. So I/don't consider that an unfriendly remark. C: It's not very good is it? K: Well, I've got Sisco in Ankara now and I will get you the reporting cables. They say they will let him know first thing in the morning there time which what: time is that? C: That's about - they're about two hours ahead of us. 25x (6) K: That's about 10 hours from here. C: That's right. You know that the ceasefire is broken down in Nicosia do you. K: No, I do not. C: Well I think the communities are getting at each now Henry and that's the kind of worse thing that can happen. You get intercommunial violence of this sort and its far more difficult to stop than regular forces. K: Well, what do you suggest. C: I've got nothing to suggest at the moment. I'm just feeling a little depressed about it. I don't think that we're going to pull it off you know. What do you think Greece will do? K: I think they may hold their fire for another 12 or 24 hours but not longer than that. C: You think if you get a favorable response from the Turks that the Greeks would then consent to come. UNCLASSION PARTIALLY DECLASSIFIED ON 9/10/03 by NARA on the recommendation of the NSC under provisions of E.O. 12958
