Conversation between Secretary Kissinger and General Haig

Kissinger: The call was Callahan, not Ecevit. They are pleading -- the
British! -- to save the Greek regime and to get Turkey to a cease-fire
quickly.
Haig: The leftist channels -- that could unravel the whole thing.
Kissinger: We have a massive insurrection in Defense. Call Brown
and talk to him privately. He is sitting down there dying.
Haig: You should go back there.
Kissinger: I want to go back and tell them I have just talked to San
Clemente. This is what we are going to do. He will kill us in the
press.
Haig: No, I don't think so, Henry.
Kissinger: A1, we can never go through another crisis like this. It
has been too bad. I will talk to the President.
