Telecon Mr. Kissinger Ambassador Dobrynin 7/19/71; 7:05 p. m. K: I talked to the President on this matter and our view is this: we would be glad to consider a meeting after we have been at the first place but to announce it before we have been there but after the date has been definitely fixed. First fix date with Peking then we can fix a tentative one with you and as soon as the other one is set, within a few weeks we will be glad to announce a date with you. I think April would be a realistic date. D: Realistically speaking April or May -- just in a way of thinking as of now. K: What I think we should do, if this is okay with you, is for us to fix a date for planning purposes which is realistical then we move up the date with the other side a little bit earlier than we would on a more leisurely schedule. As soon as that date is set we would announce it with you. D: Just for a way of thinking -- April? K: Right. D: Just to give them a perspective. Okay, I think that is clear now.
