TELCON ( 3 - Amb. Dobrynin/Min. Gromyko/Mr. Kissinger 11:34 am, October 3, 1972 D: (cont'd) So he asked me already to give you regards for our visit he just thinks I am knocking on the Furnis(!!) head. He would like to K: Well, it was a great joy to see him. D: Yeah. He would like to say hello to you alright Just a minute please. K: Certainly. Gromyko: Hallo. K: Hello, Mr. Minister. G: How do you do, how do you do, I am very glad to hear your voice (speaking Russian? ) I also am thinking on how to say goodbye to you since we departed so quickly from the President since I could not say goodbye to you. K: Well, I want to tell you how much I enjoyed see ing you and I think we have a general understanding of where we are going. G: Well, I think that step by step we are going ahead on the basis which was discussed, maybe not SO fast as we would like to see, maybe in some respect not SO fast as you would like to see, but still slowly going ahead. That is my general not only impression but conviction. K: That is also my conviction, and I hope you notice the President's reference to ultimate restriction and limitation on the use of nuclear weapons. G: Certainly, certainly. K: Good. G: I am notice this and I appreciate it very, very much and I think we can move on this matter. I think it is worthwhile to apply utmost careful. K: Right. Well, that is what we discussed yesterday when we were alone with the President. G: Yes, with the President.
