K:
But it is not--if I consider it really extraordinarily improbable.
D:
I understand. And that was one of the things I was feeling in the meeting
I know what feelings Brezhnev left, and not only this and he spoke with
me twice and I -- with him a conversation here in Embassy, and he gave
me his impressions and I have a very clear instruction, and this was
very clear for me. I could very authoritively say that nothing is going
to happen of the nature you suggest might happen. I said it is not
from our side.
K:
No, well it not be
D:
From this I could guarantee
K:
No, I can guarantee you it - - - -
D:
Even not 95%, but 100%. I go even further than you.
K:
No, that I can guarantee you 100%. I practically can guarantee you
the other thing. It's just-- can almost certainly--wellI don't want
to say something when I haven't even seen a proposal.
D:
I don't want you to go even to a statement, because I understand.
K:
But what I'm trying to tell you is it's something reassuring rather than
the opposite.
D:
Yes, this I understand. I think its a good thing Henry.
K:
But you know when I talked to the President yesterday he wanted to make
sure that I had mentioned to you, which I hadn't actually done. The attitude
with which we are pursuing our policy, and this is what I wanted to.
D:
And then yesterday you give your knowledge of his thoughts.
K:
Oh, yes, ofo course. I mean what I told you -- he wanted me to make
sure that I emphasize to you the general atmosphere with which he will
conduct his relationships to you, to Brezhnev. And they will be in the
spirit of all their discussions.
D:
I understand. I think this is important.
K:
And the very cooperative attitude so you will not be surprised by
unexpected moves on ojur part. And that you can definitely count on.
D:
I understand. Because I am now much more in touch with Brezhnev
than with telegrams. He takes a much more interest in American
affairs than before.
