K:
Anatol
D:
How are you? Welcome back. Well, well.
K:
The Middle East. We111 gladly let you handle everything from now on.
D:
(laughter) Well, You arrived today in the morning but because I have
a telegram from Minister, today, that's why I decided to bother you.
K:
Not at all.
D:
The question is about he asked me to ask you about his proposal (Brezhnev)
about meeting with him, Mr. Gromyko and you in Geneva 7th - 8th of
February. This could wait until tomorrow but I haven't
K:
I haven't had a chance to talk to the Presdient about it in detail. I think
it is going to be technically very tough for me because we have that
energy conference and I wanted to take a vacation that week.
D:
Is that already an answer or.
K:
Give me until tonight. It's almost certainly going to be that it's not a
good idea.
D:
I understand. I don't want to specifically press you this eveningbut if
you could give me more
an answer really.
K:
It looks as if this will be the answer.
D:
But should I pass that on now or
K:
Can you wait until tonight?
D:
But today yes.
K:
Today. I just want to talk to the President once more about it.
D:
OK Henry.
K:
And then you and I. I have a meeting with Congressional leaders all
morning. But I want you to know that the President said to these leaders
and I said to these leaders that we maintain the position of joint work
with the Soviet Union in that area. That the Soviet Union has vital
interests and this is our position and we said that to all of these leaders.
