Sunday, July 12, 1970
(At Home)
K:
Mr. President
P:
Henry. When does Bill Rogers get back? Do you know?
K:
Late tonight.
P:
I think it is important that tomorrow that I schedule a meeting
with him and he and you and I can sit down and
Do you think we
possibly should have Laird there too? I mean just for a chat.
K:
It depends what you want to discuss.
P:
Well, you remember he mentioned the troop thing
Well, maybe just him alone. It would be more af a buildup for him
but he should know that we want to do it subject to
K:
Well, I think you should get a report from his trip.
P:
On what subjects?
K:
On well the attitude of the Asians towards Cambodia, what
he sees for the future of Cambodia, what his ideas are on Vietnam
and then his reactions to his conversations with Hume. And I
would leave it mostly on that basis. And Bruce. And say that we are
going ahead with an XX NSC meeting XXXXXXXXX the following week on
the negotiating thing.
P:
Is that what that is Friday - the July 21st meeting
K:
That's right. That's to give Bruce, I mean
P:
How about having an NSC meeting. I think we ought to have
one on something else this week. I just want to keep these people's
feet on fire. If you got a good
K:
Well we could have an update on the Middle East.
P:
Let's do it. You see, just so they hear from me directly that
we're not going to have any fuoling around.
K:
OK. We could schedule one. It doesn't have to be a very long
one.
P:
A brief meeting. Just to get updated on the Middle East. So that
people don't feel
At least he said from what I saw the right thing on
the Middle East. But
about when he met the press. Did he or didn't
he, I don't know?
