The President
(Brought in 3/21/71)
page 2
P:
Why don't you do this
K: I'll call Bill and ask him
P:
You call Bill and just say 'Now Bill I want to level
with you. The President is going to commit his personal
prestige. We figure there's a considerably less than even
chance but there's a chance. The reason he's doing it goes
far beyond SST.'
K : Right.
P : 'It goes to the fact that this whole clack will taste
blood and they'll eat us alive. Just mention the Council for
the Livable World. Everbody that was against Buckley in his
campaign are against SST. I know that he's probably got a bunch
of young people on his staff. The usual things, you know, we're
saying 'Oh gee, prove that you're independent, prove that you're
for the environment. You see that's what happening to these
people Henry. I just know it's their staffers. Would you not
agree.
K : I agree completely. And SST to them is really a way
d'd saying that unless you spend money on these improve the ghetto
programs you have no right to do it at all.
P : Now the point is that we need it from a number of
assemblages (?). You noticed
I don't know whether
it
wasn't in your memorandum, or something but.
Did you
NAXXEE know that the Russians now are already
they've
already got a contract to sell some to the Japanese and they're
pushing the Indians and all the rest. We have to realize that
the Russians will be in it, the British will be in it, every-
body else will be in it and we're just gonng to be left holding
the hind tip.
K: That's right, which incidentally answers the argument
about climate and even about skin cancer because somebody's
going to fly these damn things.
P: Yeah, of course, of course. And, the
the climate
and skin cancer thing is just so rédiculously sickening that I
just
you know, I can't believe. And yet people are that
way. It's like ******* their horror about fallout. You remem-
ber the fallout business?
K.
Very well.
P: Well, all that was a bunch of nonsense, you know that.
K : Absolutely.
if
P:
You remember that was supposed to make everybody
