The President/Mr. Kissinger

K:
Right.
P:
Scream
It will really unmass them when they talk about the
retreat and so forth and say this is a hell of a victory for the
Americans.
K:
Exactly. There couldn't have been many wars where one's own
press gloated over what they can represent as a defeat. Hell, if
they had put Dunkirk that way, Mr. President, it could have been
written as one of the great defeats in history.
P:
The point about it is that it goes far beyond. A lot of these people
are perfectly susceptible to the far left or infiltration, Henry.
Let's face it, you know that.
K:
Oh, yeah.
P:
You know those two call star, good God, they are under discipline (?)
K:
No question about it.
P:
Well, that's all right. They get their week this week, we take ours
next time. But, by God, don't let these people sit back -- the public
relations thing, we've got to step up to this thing. Abrams will do it,
I'll do it on Monday night and then what's going to happen the next week.
K:
I thought, Mr. President, I would brief the White House Staff and some
of our public relations people on Monday.
P:
Right.
K:
To get them positioned SO that they don't go blabbing all over town
and so that some of our people who talk around the press can have a
common line. I'11 do that Monday and they can get to work then on
Tuesday.
P:
I do not want to cover it in the legislature, then it would look like a
crisis I will have covered it with Howard K. Smith, I want to say
nothing more but I do think it would be well to let some of the people
including people like Stennis and let Laird do this.
K:
Right.
