Wednesday, September 16, 2009 Page 1 of 1 Letter from Dorothy Donnelly: Dear Pat and Dick: I have purposely delayed writing a note of congratulations, as knew you would be deluged with messages right after the election -- but didn't intend to be this late. We have all had the flu, but it finally got me down and had to go to bed for a few days, the first time in years. Am still somewhat shaky but think I'll make it now. Words cannot convey our joy and happiness over your winning the election. All the dedication and hard work over the years has finally culminated in your thrilling victory. Of course, we know you really won the election in 1960, but perhaps things have worked out for the best. It gave you both a respite so that you were able to take a little time to enjoy yourselves -- and your lovely daughters. They grow up so quickly. Know you're proud of them. They conducted themselves admirably all through the campaign. They are so wholesome and such normal, yet lady- like girls. Certainly they show the marvelous upbringing you have given them. It does not seem possible that Julie is old enough to be getting married -- the years fly by so quickly. She and David are so cute together and it is most apparent that this is a real love match. We wish them every happiness. - 2 - As for you two, you have your work cut out for you. We are living in such disturbing times and your jobs are certainly going to be extremely difficult. You will be challenged on all sides but we, and a lot of others, have every confidence in you. We have nothing but the highest praise for everything you have done -- from the statesmanlike way you conducted your campaign, up to the present in the outstanding appointments you are making. So good to know our good friends, Herb Klein, Bob Finch, Bob Haldeman, Bryce Harlow and, of course, Rose, will still be in there pitching. Best of luck to you both and may God give you good health, strength and courage, to enable you to put this wonderful nation back on the right track, so that we are justified in being the true leader' of the free world. Charlie joins me in sending our best to all of you. Devotedly, Dorothy PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER!
