Dear Dick:
This is the last time I will address you
by your informal nickname. From now on, and as
long as I live, I will be addressing you as
"Mr. President. 11
First, I want to express my deep
appreciation to you for the dinner last night
in my honor and for the very warm remarks which
you made in the course of your presentation.
As I said at the time, the great effort which my
finance organization and I devoted to the fund-
raising activity was fully rewarded in the suc-
cess of your campaign and in your generous
recognition.
Second, I want to express my appreciation
to you for your confidence in naming me to the
post of Secretary of Commerce. In return, I
assure you of my fullest dedication to your
programs and every effort within my power and
ability to provide a good administration of this
important Department. I will appreciate your
counsel on its activities at any time.
Finally, I congratulate you on your
winning campaign. Your election is the long due
recognition of your abilities. Through 1960 and
1962, I never lost the confidence that you would
some day be President of the United States, and
I am proud now to be part of your administration.
Sincere regards,
many
The Honorable Richard M. Nixon
