Wednesday, October 21, 2009 Page 2 of 2 Fy2. ELMER HOLMES BOBST 7 EAST 60TH STREET NEW YORK, N. Y. 10022 February 2, 1973 Dear Rose: At some convenient moment you may mention my having received the enclosed copy of letter from Mayor Blake Sanborn of Whittier. In a case of this sort we must surrender senti- mental values and embrace logical ones. The library would never serve the purpose the Boss has in mind if located in Whittier. I have developed my own thoughts as to where it should be located, and the approximate amount of money that would be involved - the amount is a large one. If at some time the Boss would like to discuss this with me personally, either in Washington or when he happens to be in Key Biscayne, I will be happy to do so. Ruv The present members of the Board are O.K. from the standpoint of spirit and friendship, but badly lacking in regard to the financial side 3 As ever, Mont Miss Rose Mary Woods The White House Washington, D. C. 20050 Enc. C.L. MacNelly Chauncey Lane, Cedarhurst, N.Y. 11516 (516) 569-0740 2/22/73 The President The White House Dear Mr. President, Among the dozens of my sketches of you is this one of Mrs. Nixon. I send it along to you as a small, personal remembrance. I haven't seen Mrs. Nixon at close range for a number of years but would find it difficult to believe that she has ever looked better than she does today. My compliments to her. And may I add, Mr. President, that your service to our country is sur- passing even my excessively high ex- pectations. I look forward to four great and historic years and my prayers stay with you. with every every fond good Helly wish Bud Juan note for Presiden attached B C.L. MacNelly Chauncey Lane, Cedarhurst, N.Y. 11516 (516) 569-0740 2/22/73 Dear Rosemary, This is positively the last (*1). Promise! It's just that I've done so many sketches of the President I thought I'd do one for him (*2). Incidentally, Rosemary, the President may have his own reasons for waiting a few more years for his own portrait but it's hard to see what purpose is served by having Mrs. Nixon wait: She looks absolutely wonderful. As promised, I'm sending a few color prints (there are, of course, dozens more) which I'd appreciate your keeping. It'd be nice to know they were handy if the subject should come up. This sketch of Mrs. Nixon will fit the frame on that last sketch of the President though I'm not sure how well it would "go". You may want to have someone shift it. Miss Acker tells me you didn't take the time off in California you were planning which is naughty of you. But do take care Jeff appreciated your nice note. affer- Bud *1. About your "inventory", poor girl. I've no wish to clutter up your office. If there's no use for some of it (especially that larger sketch of the President), please don't be shy about saying SO. I'll stop by and carry it away next trip. *2. I'd be happy to have him see my note (attached). B. Mrs. Thes Grant Use - A. Winer nuller C.L.
